The David Goy Memorial fund was started in October of 1997 following the untimely death of David Goy, the first full time volunteer in the Catholic Diocese of Richmond, Virginia Haiti Volunteer program. The first goal of this program was the creation and support of a school in Matabonite Haiti, where up to that point no school or literacy program existed. Our primary goal continues to be supporting the Haiti Community St. Rose of Lima school. We believe that educating and feeding children is fundemental to instituting change.
Building from the David Goy Fund and combining resources
from twinning parishes and colleges, the current David Goy Foundation's
mission is to continue to support the growing town of Jacsonville, located
in the heart of Matabonite. One aspect of this development is
the institution of a Jacsonville leadership committee, Haiti Community
St. Rose, which makes decisions for the greater Jacsonville needs, accepts
financial responsibility, and communicates their budget.
Our board members are unpaid volunteers so all possible funds and resources can be applied directly to serving our brothers and sisters in Jacsonville, Haiti. We meet monthly and are in regular contact with community leaders in Haiti to assess progress, determine needs, and plan for projects and ongoing support.
